Tal Farlow was called the "Octopus" because he had catcher's mitt sized hands that spread out all over the fretboard. He lived in New Jersey and played at one place, the Yankee Clipper in Seagirt, New Jersey until he died at age 77. Prior to this quiet life he was on the road with big bands and numerous players- including the Benedetto Players playing with the likes of Jimmy Bruno, Jack Wilkins, Pat Martino and the other greats- repping for Bob Benedetto. He was untrained- self-taught, and sounded like 3 steam engines going down the same track at the same time when he got cooking. He was an "animal" on the Gibson jazz box that he usually played, and designed for Gibson 50 years ago. The Tal Farlow (Talmage Holt Farlow), is an L5 sized hollow body laminate archtop, with his design scroll in the body. The pickups are twin Classic 57's, with separate tone and volume controls, and a 3 way switch (the tip is in the case). The fretboard is a large radius (probably 12") rosewood with inverted inlaid crowns. The laminate was at Tal's preference for feedback reasons. The guitar includes the OHSC/ and all paperwork and COA. It is in almost mint condition and is near perfect. There is some oxidizing of the metal parts. The gloss Vintage Sunburst finish is near perfect. Panther Guitars guarantees satisfaction. Returns for defects or incorrect listings. Other reasons may, but rarely does, incur a restocking fee of 10%. See some photos at the bottom of the listings of Tal. I had the great honor of knowing Tal Farlow, as well as Jimmy, and Jack. These guys were, and still are the greats.
This guitar being built prior to 2017 is exempt from CITES wood clearance internationally. However, a CITES certificate is still required for international shipments. At this time, it has been 6 weeks since we have paid for and applied for the CITES paperwork. Any international sales should not present a problem, but we just would like to let you know that technically we are in a possible holding pattern till we get the certificates. We will honor all sales abroad, or issue a complete refund depending on the international exporting climate at the time. Thank you. Panther Guitars.
